Linux Mint is a community GNU / Linux distribution based on Debian and Ubuntu that aims to provide "a modern, elegant and comfortable operating system that is both powerful and easy to use."

Linux Mint multimedia support to include proprietary and packaged software with a variety of free and open source applications. The project was conceived by Clément Lefèbvre and is being actively developed by the Linux Team Team and the community. The unstable branch of Linux Mint is called Romeo. It is not activated by default in the distribution launches. Users who wish to get the "most advanced" features and wish to help the distribution by testing the new packages, can add the "Romeo" branch to their APT sources. Romeo is not a branch in itself and does not replace the other repositories. The new packages are released first in Romeo, where they are tested by developers and by those who use Romeo. After a packet is defined as sufficiently stable, it is ported to the last stable launch. The idea of Romeo and its update process is taken from the Debian distribution, where the packages are first launched to the "Unstable" branch and then to the "Test" branch. Romeo is equivalent to the "Unstable" branch in Linux Mint (although it requires a stable launch to be supported and can not function on its own), its last stable launch is the equivalent to the "Test" branch, because although it is stable it gets your update from Romeo. Depending on its dependencies to a particular package, it can also be tested on Romeo to be included in the next stable release.
